Park cycling race raises hundreds of pounds for local causes

A cycling race through Melton Country Park raised £420 for local causes.

The Melton Olympic Cycling Club event was round four of the Friday Night Summer Series with over 100 entries and 99 riders on the night.

Entrants aged from 12 upwards raced around a compact two-mile circuit in the northern most section of the park.

This was a cross country course which, although not too technical, proved extremely tough with the top riders managing just eight laps in the ‘hour plus one lap’ race.Overall winner was Jason Swadling, who was riding for the Pedal Power Loughborough club.

Richard Bishuty, of Melton Olympic CC, told the Melton Times: “There was an excellent profit of £420 made from the race, which was donated in equal amounts to Friends of the Country Park, Welly's Cafe, the Air Ambulance and Melton Olympic CC.

"The club would also like to thank the council, who allow us to race there.”
