Police closed off Norman way, with traffic being diverted along Chapel Street, as paramedics attended to the woman.

The collision happened near the Snow Hill junction, on the corner where Halfords is, at about 1pm.

Sergeant Ade Grant said: “The collision involved a single vehicle which hit a pedestrian crossing the road. We don’t yet know the level of the woman’s injuries but at the moment they’re believed to be slight.”

“The driver of the car is a man in his 20s.”

Norman Way was still closed off at the time of going to press.

The air ambulance landed near Beckmill Court to assist at the scene.
